EDUCATIONAL AFFAIRS
Educational policy refers to advocacy related to students’ education, the quality of teaching, and the smooth progress of studies. Within the guild, educational policy work focuses on ensuring that students’ voices are heard in decision-making: we monitor the development of teaching, collect feedback, and forward it to the university. The goal is a fair, functional, and high-quality learning environment for everyone.
The most accessible way to get involved in educational policy is through Guild Coffee Meetings. These are informal coffee gatherings held in the guild room between students and department staff. Usually, the guild chair and the educational affairs officer are present, but anyone interested in educational policy matters is welcome to join.
STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES
A student representative (halloped) is a student member of university administration who ensures that the voices of students are heard in decision-making. Student representatives can make concrete proposals to improve teaching, for example regarding individual courses or entire degree programmes. They are a great point of contact if you want to discuss architecture education or education at Tampere University in general.
Anyone studying at our university can apply to become a student representative, and supplementary applications are often open on a rolling basis. Students can apply to faculty councils and to the degree programme planning group if they study within the scope of that body. Academic seniority does not matter – you can serve as a student representative whether you are a first-year student or a more experienced scholar.
For more information about educational policy and the work of student representatives, you can contact our guild’s Educational Affairs Officer (Kopo). The best way to reach them is by email, which you can find under BOARD tab.
